LEEDERSHIP: TRUMPET’S LEED/SUSTAINABILITY
COMMITMENT

TRUMPET Builders made a decision to formulate
a program that will benefit customer satisfaction and quality.
Recognizing that building quality and operating cost are two
significant factors in owner expectations we looked at solutions
that would best meet those needs.
We have made a commitment to implement accredited
strategies in our building business. We have determined that
the most advanced and detailed is LEED (Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design). This Green Building Rating System®
is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing
high-performance, sustainable buildings.
LEED accreditation was created in 2000 to set
specific standards for green building. Its purposes include
defining “green building” by establishing a common
standard of measurement, promoting integrated whole-building
design practices, recognizing environmental leadership in
the building industry, stimulating green competition, raising
consumer awareness of green building benefits and transforming
the building market, according to the organization’s
Web site.
Our goal is to transform the building market.
We intend to bring real measurable value, while implementing
state of the art strategies for sustainable site development
and building. This benefit will result in significant reduction
in operating cost to the owner reducing waste in energy and
improving personal comfort well above industry standards in
practice today.
In home building this is important to individual
homeowners who operate on budgets. What we offer is a benefit
that will last forever in the extended life of the home. It
is unlikely that energy cost will go down, but our energy
efficient homes will hold value in the efficiencies built
into them.
In our commercial buildings there are the same
energy efficiencies built in yet there is an added advantage
to the business owner. Research has shown green buildings
not only save energy and resources, but also improves productivity
by up to 16 percent, which is an important advantage to the
business owner. This is an advantage for many corporations
that are looking for ways to provide their employees with
an environment of efficiency and productivity.
Many of our customers believe in the benefits
of energy efficient homes and offices, and want to do all
they can but don't believe they can justify a significant
cost premium for sustainable design features. This is where
Trumpets expertise is able to help. We focus on areas where
it is possible to make a difference without adding features
or practices that affect cost. Our processes that incorporate
time efficiency and planning on the front end allow us to
reduce cost and in many cases build a project that is 35 to
55 percent more efficient in operating cost and no additional
cost to the customer.
It is not hard to incorporate the method of
green design and build and still maintain the budget you have
for your project.
We as well offer a safer environment to walk
into. Today many concerns and warnings are being presented
on the improper use of toxic materials or materials that can
affect the quality of environment. We can use building materials
that include a high level of recycled content. They are commonplace
and comparable in price to their less-green counterparts,
as are nontoxic materials such as glues and other adhesives.
The construction and development process can
adversely affect the environment through ecosystem damage,
soil stripping, poor air quality, wildlife displacement and
adding to existing landfills. Our sustainable construction
programs are designed to address and alleviate these threats
as follows:
• Waste management preparation
• Indoor air quality planning
• Site planning and resource conservation
• Subcontractor selection
• Material procurement
• Communication
Through these programs, we strive to build the
best products for our clients while sustaining our environment
for years to come. Our firm is one of the front-runners in
the innovative green building market. We currently have 2
buildings that have applied for Platinum LEED status, one
Gold LEED application and 26 National Association of Home
Builders (NAHB) Green Certified Homes.
